In a significant win for regional immigration, the Northwest Territories (NWT) has successfully advocated for the full restoration of its nomination allocation for the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP).
After a nationwide 50% reduction to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allocations earlier this year, the federal government has granted the NWT an additional 103 nominations. This brings the territory's final 2025 allocation to 300 spaces, effectively returning it to pre-2025 levels.
What This Means for Candidates and Employers
This restoration is a direct response to critical labour shortages in the territory. For employers, it means renewed access to the skilled international talent needed to sustain and grow their businesses.
For candidates, this translates to over 100 additional Invitations to Apply (ITAs) expected to be issued this year. This opens a significant new pathway for skilled workers aiming to build their careers and lives in Canada's North.
Next Steps and Application Intake
The NWT's Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Caitlin Cleveland, has confirmed that the government is preparing to open a new NTNP application intake period to utilize these nominations.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to begin assessing their eligibility now.
The NTNP features several streams, including:
The Employer-Driven Stream
Key Takeaway
The Northwest Territories is the first and only PNP to have its nomination allocation fully restored to 2024 levels. This underscores the territory's unique economic needs and the effectiveness of its advocacy. It signals a strong and ongoing commitment to using immigration to power local growth and fill essential jobs.
